Our editor recently chatted with ‘Christine Mintcheva’ who owns a bespoke international event planning service, specialising in destination weddings based in the Lyon region.
Find out what attracted Christine to relocate from the UK and why she would recommend Lyon as the perfect wedding destination for the newly engaged!
What is it about Lyon that first attracted you to relocate from the UK?
The city and region are so attractive, and it has so much to offer! With 113 Michelin starred restaurants and over 1500 fine dining eateries, Lyon is the birth place of outstanding food and you learn the expression ‘The love of French food.’
The location is so well connected, with a 2-hour drive to the French coast and only an hour and a half to the Alps, the quality of life is so outstanding…including the weather!
What made you want a change of career into wedding planning?
After falling in love with Lyon and its region, I wanted to create a life incorporating my location. I loved organising my own wedding, so it just felt like the right career path for me!
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
I really enjoy getting to know the clients and I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of their journey. I love seeing the joy in the couples faces when we finally pull together their special day. I also enjoy working and liaising with my suppliers and building strong working relationships. Working in 2 languages is also pretty cool!
Why would you recommend Lyon as a wedding destination?
Most of our venues provide exclusivity and include onsite accommodation for guests. Venue hire runs from Friday to Sunday, meaning that couples and their guests can enjoy a wedding weekend rather than just a wedding day.
Why would you recommend Lyon over getting married in the UK?
Firstly, you have a better chance of glorious weather! The caterers that we work with are of extremely high quality and their attention to detail is impeccable. The venues are one of the most elegant and striking in the world. What could be better than having your loved ones drinking champagne in beautiful gardens set within the grounds of an enchanting French Chateau?! Finally, the bride and groom could have their mini moon or honeymoon straight away in the stunning region of Lyon!
Why would you recommend hiring a wedding planner when getting married abroad?
I would recommend hiring a planner as it simplifies the process of getting married abroad and alleviates the stress for the bride and groom. A planner has vetted all the venues and vendors and only uses suppliers that they know and trust. Having a wedding planner who understands the culture and the language is so important, as it will ensure the wedding day runs smoothly.
